[Assignment] [Excel] Internet Speed Test Project

Background Info.

For this project, students will conduct some Internet speed tests to collect data. Students will enter this data into an Excel spreadsheet to organize the data. After all students have entered their data, students will learn how to add important formulas to analyze the data. Students will also learn to create charts and graphs using the data.

Please use the following website to conduct the speed test: Speedtest.net.

Please use this link to access the Internet Speedtest Data Spreadsheet.

Vocabulary PowerPoint.

You will need to perform four Internet speed tests using different servers. The servers used should be as follows:

  1. One in Jacksonville, FL.
  2. One in any U.S. state other than Florida.
  3. One not in the U.S. but in the Western hemisphere (i.e. Canada, Mexico, Central or South America)
  4. One in the Eastern hemisphere (Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa).

The data you will need to record is as follows:

  1. First Name, Last Initial
  2. Class Period. JUST the number, First Period put 1, Second Period put 2, etc.
  3. Date
  4. Time
  5. Your ISP
  6. Server ISP
  7. Server City
  8. Server State (If Applicable)
  9. Server Country
  10. Ping (ms)

Due Date

You need to complete the four speed tests by Monday, April 13, 2020 at 11:59PM. When you complete your speed tests you need to e-mail me and let me know you finished them.

Completing all four speed tests correctly is worth 20 points.

[Digital Art] [Enrichment] Photoshop Battle #00: Athletes with Instruments

The image above was the inspiration for this project idea. It is a funny picture that also requires significant photo editing skills. For this project you need to:

  • Find a picture of at least one athlete competing in a game or match. Save it to your computer and / or USB drive.
  • Find a picture of one or more musical instruments. Save those pictures to your computer and / or USB drive.
  • Use Paint.net or GNU Image Manipulation Project Portable to create an image showing the athletes playing the instruments.
    • In-class examples will use Paint.net for demonstration purposes.

Content Rubric

  • FIRST NAME and LAST INITIAL only in BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER. [5 Points]

Background Info.

NASA created The Golden Record to provide information about life on Earth to potential intelligent life outside of the Solar System. It was installed on the Voyager spacecrafts which were launched in 1977. You can read more information about them in this Wikipedia Article on The Golden Record.

For this project students will:

  • Create a PowerPoint version of their own Golden Record.
  • Export that PowerPoint into a video file.
